[News] Angel Locsin Arrives in New York

Heard that Angel Locsin is now in New York.

Claire (
sweet17@pex) in Arep confirmed that Angel's flight departure was at 8:30AM yesterday. When I checked the flights en route to New York, it's Northwest Airlines flight NW 280 with closest departure time (8:20 AM). If Angel took this flight, she must had a short stop over in Tokyo and landed in La Guardia airport in New York late afternoon to early evening. For the local time in New York, see the NY time clock at the top right of this blog.

Yesterday, Angel tweeted on her way to the airport requesting to include her in our prayers. That's so sweet of her and of course, we will be praying even if she hadn't asked. Angel tweeted again at the airport asking for support to CNN Hero Nominee, Efren Penaflorida Jr. Efren was so lucky for getting personal support from Angel and an opportunity to chat with her :)

Here are the actual tweets from Angel:
Hi guys.. :) I'm on my way na sa airport going to ny.. :) chikahan wd phils cnn hero nominee efren penaflorida jr! :) pls vote for him :) lst day of voting ngayon! :) hope manalo sya! :)

tjmanotoc

I heard Angel's departure to New York was not covered last night by TV Patrol but her interview at the airport was shown in SNN (Showbiz News Ngayon). Kris Aquino stated that they are very happy for Angel's iEmmy nomination. After the video clips of the interview, Kris commented that Angel is so proper for inviting Piolo as escort (because Piolo played the role of lead character, Noah, in Lobo).

I want to correct one inaccuracy in SNN that Tessie Tomas is the first Filipina who got nominated in 1989 for Best Actress in iEmmy Awards. As we reported in our story
HERE, the iEmmy Best Actress category was started only in 2005. I know I first reported HERE that Tessie Tomas was also nominated in iEmmy Awards for best supporting category for playing the role of Imelda Marcos in "The Dangerous Life", a 6-hour television miniseries.

If I remember correctly, believe I was the first blogger who published this info online. It is a bit of a concern because I did further verification recently and can't find additional proof other than that single article I found before.

Since PEP already transcribed the interview of Angel shown in SNN last night, I will re-post here the article.

Angel Locsin will grace the 37th International Emmy Awards in New York

Friday, November 20, 2009 01:27 AM

Angel Locsin left the country this Thursday, November 19, to attend the 37th International Emmy Awards where she is nominated for Best Performance for an Actress.

This 2009, three out of 41 nominees came from the Philippines. Aside from Angel who was recognized for role as a she-wolf in the ABS-CBN fantaserye Lobo, two shows will be competing in the Best Telenovela category: ABS-CBN's Kahit Isang Saglit starring Jericho Rosales and Carmen Soo as well as GMA-7's Magdusa Ka starring Katrina Halili and Dennis Trillo.

Katrina and Dennis will be unable to attend the awards night that will take place at the Hilton Hotel, New York City, on November 23. Dennis is currently in Beijing, China to shoot the Metro Manila Film Fest entry Mano Po 6.

Organized by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, the annual International Emmy Awards aims to celebrate excellence in television produced outside of the U.S.

This marks the second time that a Filipina was nominated for the category Best Performance for an Actress. Tessie Tomas was also nominated for her role as Imelda Marcos in the 1989 film A Dangerous Life.

In an interview with Showbiz News Ngayon (SNN) before boarding her flight to the United States, Angel disclosed that she is happy to represent the Philippines regardless of the outcome.

"Para sa akin, malaking karangalan ito. Manalo, matalo, happy na ako na ma-appreciate lang ng tao ang ginawa mong hirap, malaking effort na. Siyempre, hindi ko naman magagawa yun kung hindi dahil sa director namin."

Lobo was co-directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina and E. M. Reyes.

Is she confident that she will take home the prize? "Hindi ko naman yun iniisip, iniisip ko lang para sa atin itong mga Pilipino. Panahon na para ma-notice tayo. It's our time to shine."

Angel revealed that she will be wearing a creation by Michael Cinco when she walks on the red carpet. "Six kilos po ang gown ko. Maraming makintab...Actually na-hold siya sa Customs kasi may mga Swarovski. Saka meron akong business suit by Ivar Aseron and Rajo Laurel naman para sa cocktail dress."

Who will be her escort that night? "Wala, eh. In-ask ko si PJ [Piolo Pascual, her leading man in Lobo] pero busy siya sa Lovers in Paris. Wala naman akong ibang naisip na isama dito kundi si PJ kasi soya naman yung kasama ko sa hirap, sa ginhawa dito sa Lobo. So kung hindi siya pwede, hindi rin ako nag-aya ng iba."

Angel mentioned that she did not ask her former boyfriend, Luis Manzano, to accompany her to the International Emmy Awards.
