[News] Angel Locsin Nominated for 37th International Emmy Awards

Angel Locsin who played the lead role Lyka in Lobo (The Wolf) has been nominated for Best Performance By An Actress category in the 37th International Emmy Awards. Angel Locsin will have to battle it out with Julie Walters of UK, Emma De Caunes of France, and Cecilia Suarez of Mexico. Winners will be announced on November 23, 2009 at the Hilton New York Hotel.

Nominations span over 17 countries with Philippines winning 3 nominations. The other two nominees are both under the Telenovela category: "Kahit Isang Saglit" (A Time for Us) from ABS-CBN/Double Vision SDN BHD and "Magdusa Ka" from GMA. Other nominees under this category are from Brazil and France.

The nominees were announced in Cannes yesterday by The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences at a Press Conference. The Academy was chartered with a mission to recognize excellence in television produced outside of the United States.

This is the second international recognition received by Lobo, which has been declared as winner for the Teleserye Program category in the 30th Banff World Television Awards in Canada on June 10, 2009.

Angel Locsin is the second Filipina that has been nominated for an International Emmy Award. Tessie Tomas got her Emmy Awards nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category in 2000 on her portrayal of Imelda Marcos in "Dangerous Life", a six-hour television mini-series.


When I first heard about this news, I was so happy and teary eyed because I suddenly recalled the challenges Angel was facing when Lobo was aired because of her network transfer. It is heartwarming to see that all her hard work and dedication to her craft is finally recognized. I am so proud of you Angel and keep soaring high.
